The Reading Mountains Festival is an international festival for Alpine literature and cultural heritage organized by the Alpine Convention. The festival offers an opportunity to connect people who love books and mountains, even though they are located in different places. Book lovers and authors, alpinists, and artists throughout the Alpine region (and beyond) can discuss similar topics and explore the meaning, impact, and purpose of Alpine literature. The Reading Mountains Festival takes place annually at the Ötscher-Basis Nature Park Center. The focus is on stories about the mountains, nature, and the environment. The festival thus also creates a platform for exchange on current topics such as climate change, alpine habitats, and social developments in rural areas.
